On our recent five day visit to Jeju Island, we decided to rent a car to explore the island. Renting a car in Jeju is a great option for maximum flexibility in what to see and do each day. It was great to be able to map out our plan for each day and to be able to adjust as we went along.
When we arrived at Jeju Airport and went to the car hire shuttle bus pickup area, we were amazed to see just how many Jeju car rental companies exist! We easily counted 20+ different car rental provider allocated parking spaces. As a result, if you truly want to find the cheapest car rental, the best hack is to use car rental comparison websites to find the most affordable Jeju Airport car rental quickly. You should book in advance to ensure you get the best option.

How to Find the Cheapest Car Rental in Jeju Island
We recommend that you click on all three of our recommended car hire comparison options to find the cheapest option. In our experience, each car hire company works with different comparison sites – none of them compare all of the same options. Our recommended comparison sites are Klook, DiscoverCars.com and RentalCars.com.
Consider whether you want to pay the full car rental fee upfront, or alternatively, a deposit and final payment on collection of your vehicle, as this can assist you to decide which option to choose. Klook and RentalCars.com require full payment on booking, whereas DiscoverCars.com enables you to pay a deposit, and pay the remainder on vehicle collection.
Also, consider whether you want to bundle your additional car rental insurance coverage with your booking, or alternatively pay this additional cost on pickup. Many travel insurance providers also include coverage for your car rental excess fee in your policy. It is worthwhile to check this out and ensure you are not double paying for this insurance element.
Once you have clicked through on each link, our second tip is to take each booking option to the point of finalising your car hire. This way, you will know the total cost of each car hire option, including additional insurance and other options such as child seats, cancellation options and other included items.
Below, we show you how to do this process step by step for each recommended provider, including screenshots. You will see in the screenshots for the identical car rental booking that the total cost can be quite different across the three comparison sites!
Another tip is to look for car rental options from Jeju City Downtown. Airports normally charge additional fees for car rental companies, so this is an option to reduce the cost of your car rental. However, you will then still need to work out how to get between the airport and downtown pickup location.
Once you have progressed to that point with each provider, you should be able to compare options to find your cheap car rental for Jeju Island.
We always purchase additional protection options. If things go wrong, you are fully covered from an insurance and roadside assistance perspective.
Additional Research Option to Find a Cheap Car Rental Jeju Island
There is also an option for you to do a deeper level of research into cheap car rentals Jeju Island by going to each individual car rental provider’s website and conducting a similar quotation process to see if you can get a cheaper deal.
In my experience, you can spend hours finding and checking out the options and then have to use a clunky user interface to make your booking. If you are only visiting South Korea for a short visit, consider if the time you spend on this process is really worthwhile. Also, ensure you are comparing apples with apples – make sure that the quoted price includes both your car rental cost and your additional insurance.
Essential Car Hire Requirements for Jeju Island
To be able to rent a car in Jeju Island, there are some essential requirements to be aware of before booking.
You MUST Have an International Drivers Permit
You must have either a Korean Drivers Licence or an International Drivers Permit to rent a car in Jeju. You can only purchase an International Drivers Permit in your home country, so ensure you get one before you depart. If you forget, you will not be able to get one after you arrive in South Korea.
An International Drivers Permit is an internationally agreed translation of your home country’s driver’s licence. When you pick up your Jeju car rental, you will be asked to show your International Drivers Permit before they provide you with your vehicle.
You MUST be Old Enough to Hire a Car
Typically anyone between the ages of 30-65 can rent a car through our recommended providers. If you are younger or older than this, you must select your age when you search for car rental options.
Many car rental companies will not rent to anyone younger than 25, but some on Jeju Island rent to younger and older. However, you may also have to pay a higher rate. Ensure you correctly select your age to see what options are available.
How to Find a Klook Jeju Car Rental
Klook is a great option for finding a cheap Jeju Island car rental. We used Klook to book our Jeju Island car rental for our recent visit and found it very easy, and the process was very smooth.
Our selected supplier was Jeju Rent A Car, and after walking to the Jeju International Airport car rental collection area, we were quickly picked up by their shuttle bus and transferred to their shopfront. We were provided with our car after a very quick visit to their counter to register our International Drivers Permits. We were on site for around 15 minutes before driving away.
On the Klook car rental search screen, enter your pick-up and drop-off dates and times, select your age (if required) and press search.
You will quickly see a list of many car rental options and prices. You can then use the left-hand sidebar to filter the search results for insurance options, inclusions, car size, payment, etc. You can also read reviews and pickup and dropoff information for each car rental provider. Click on the orange down arrow to see additional details about each car rental option.
If you then choose the Orange ‘Select’ button, a new screen will open, which includes further details about your car rental, including reviews, pickup, dropoff and insurance options.
You can choose your add-ons, including Snow Chains, Child Seats, GPS Navigation Device and Additional Drivers. You can also see the required documents for pickup, driver’s age requirements and details of your care rental.
Once you have completed the previous sections, choose the orange ‘Next Step’ button. You will be prompted to log in to your Klook account or sign up as a new account.
Once you have completed this step, you will be on the final booking page, where you enter the driver, contact, and flight information. If you have a promo code or Klook loyalty credits, you can use them now. Use our Klook promo code of MDE8G to get $US5 off your first order. Once you have completed these details, click the orange ‘Continue’ button to proceed to payment.
On the Klook payment screen, enter your preferred payment method. Options include PayPal, and many credit or debit cards. Once you have entered your details, click the orange ‘Pay Now’ button. Your booking will be finalised, and you will almost instantly receive a confirmation email and booking voucher with instructions on picking up your hire car.
You have to pay the full amount on booking, however this means that you have locked in your car rental cost and will not be subject to exchange rate variations.
How to Find a Jeju Car Rental through DiscoverCars.com
DiscoverCars.com is also a great option to find a cheap car rental in Jeju Island. On the Discover Cars search screen, enter your pickup and dropoff dates and times, select your age (if required) and press search.
You will quickly see a list of many car rental options and prices. You can then use the left-hand sidebar to filter the search results for insurance options, inclusions, car size, payment, etc. You can also read reviews for each car rental provider. Click the green View button for additional details about each car rental option. Each option will open as a new tab in your web browser.
At the top of the details screen, you will see a summary of your car rental, including pickup and dropoff instructions.
Below on the same page is the option to add Full Coverage to your car rental. Pricing is clear up front, with details about what is included in the Full coverage policy. Decide whether to choose this option.
You can select optional extras on the same screen, including an additional driver and GPS navigation system. Below that section is the form for you to fill out your driver details, along with a summary of the total cost of your rental package and free cancellation options. Fill out these details and click the green ‘Book Now’ button.
You will then open the final payment screen for your booking. You can pay a deposit to lock in your deal and then be ready to pay the remainder on pickup. Your final payment is shown in Korean Won, so be aware that due to exchange rate fluctuations, your local currency quote may vary for this final payment.
You will quickly receive an email confirmation of your booking with DiscoverCars.com. From there, on arrival at Jeju International Airport, follow the pickup instructions, and you should be good to commence your car rental.
How to Find a Jeju Car Rental through RentalCars.com
RentalCars.com is also a great option for finding a cheap car rental in Jeju Island. On the Rental Cars search screen, enter your pick-up and drop-off dates and times, select your age (if required) and press search.
You will quickly see a list of many car rental options and prices. You can then use the left-hand sidebar to filter the search results for insurance options, inclusions, car size, payment, etc. You can also read reviews for each car rental provider. Click the green View Deal button for additional details about each car rental option. Each option will open as a new tab in your web browser.
At the top of the details screen, you will see further details about your car rental, with options to see pickup and dropoff instructions and included protection options. Click on the green ‘Continue to Book’ button at the bottom of the screen.
You will now see the screen with options to add on Full Protection to your booking. Pricing is clear up front, with details about what is included in the Full Protection policy. Decide whether to choose this option.
You can select optional extras on the same screen, including an additional driver and GPS navigation system. Below that section is the form for you to fill out your driver details, along with a summary of the total cost of your rental package and free cancellation options. Fill out these details and click either the white ‘Go to Book Without Full Protection’ button or the green ‘Go to Book With Full Protection’ button.
Once you have completed this step, you will see the full summary of the car rental cost. You can now also enter the driver, contact and payment information. Once you have entered all this information, click on the green ‘Book Now’ button at the bottom of the screen to complete your booking.
You will quickly receive an email confirmation of your booking with RentalCars.com. From there, on arrival at Jeju International Airport, follow the pickup instructions, and you should be good to commence your car rental.
