Gyeongju, which is known as ‘the museum without walls’, was the capital city of the ancient Silla Kingdom, which ruled over a large part of the Korean Peninsula for 1000 years, roughly from 57BC to 935AD. As a result there are a large number of historical sights, with many UNESCO World Heritage Sites, along with many Josean era attractions. Gyeongju is located north of Busan in the south east of South Korea.

Gyeongju is accessible via either of the following airports:

• Gimhae International Airport is located in Busan, which is a 1:30 hour trip by bus to Gyeongju. There are also many domestic flight options to enable you to easily get around South Korea.
• Daegu Airport is the closest major airport to Gyeongju, and is a one hour trip by KTX fast train to Singyeongju Station, followed by a 20 minute bus trip to reach the centrally located Gyeongju Express Bus Terminal.

Gyeongju is also easy to get to from Seoul – the fast KTX trains make the journey in only 2.15 hours direct to Singyeongju Station, followed by a 20 minute bus trip to reach the centrally located Gyeongju Express Bus Terminal. From Busan you can easily visit Gyeongju as a day trip or tour, as it is a bus trip of one hour each way.

Alternatively, you can catch the cheaper Intercity or Express Bus options direct to the Express Bus Terminal, a trip of 3:30 hrs. Note that the Intercity Bus Terminal and Express Bus Terminals are located side by side in Gyeongju.
