A Guide to Korean jjimjilbangs 찜질방 | Bathhouses in Korea by GrrrlTraveler

If you’ve followed any of my adventures while I was living in Korea, you’ll know that I love jjimjilbangs (aka bathhouses in Korea)! The reason is that Koreans know how to make the spa experience naturally healthy, economical, community-oriented and just plain fun. It’s not just taking a bath… it’s a bucket list experience!

Jjimjilbangs are 24 hour bathhouses in Korea, that also have spa facilities that can make the bath house experience feel like Disneyland. As the operating hours are 24 hours, you can also sleep in them.  Click here to read more…

Fun Facts and Observations about Seoul and (a little bit of) Korea by backpackme

Every now and then we crave traveling to a place that feels completely different than where we happen to be. After spending a solid amount of time in Europe, we decided to take advantage of the specific visa rules that apply to Indian passport holders “transiting” via Korea to the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Europe. We were in New Delhi and planning to go to Portugal, so this visa scheme worked wonderfully for us. We looked for the cheapest flights from New Delhi to Seoul and, next thing we knew, we were in the Gangnam District, eating Kimbap in the middle of the night. Those were the days!

Korea indeed felt different from Delhi or Lisbon. Koreans seems to be quite… Korean! What I mean to say is, that there are some places in the world that feel more unique than others. They’re not better or worse as destinations or even as places to live in. But from a visitor’s point of view, they seem appealing as they have a lot of unique peculiarities.  Click here to read more…
