The experience of a Korean rail bike is unique in the world – you get to ride along a disused section of rail track by pedalling. All seats in each rail bike have pedals so everyone can help, and you can choose either a 2 or 4 seat rail bike. A great option to experience a Korean rail bike is to visit the Gyeongju Rail Bikes, as they are easily accessible from Seoul either by train or using a day tour option to also explore nearby Nami Island and other local attractions.
Check out our short video below to see some of the things you can do and see in and around Nami Island and Gapyeong!
How to Get to the Gapyeong and Gangchon Rail Bikes

The Gangchon Rail Bikes are located four stops further along the line from Gapyeong Station – hop off at Gimyujeong Station and it is a short 400m walk from there.

The Gapyeong Rail Bike Experience
We really enjoyed pedalling along the massive Han River and seeing the countryside at a slower pace – there were lots of interesting things to see along the way. At the halfway point you unload and have the chance to take a break and buy food or souvenirs at the shop before reloading for the return trip back to the starting point.

I was relieved to discover that for uphill sections there is an electric booster system – once you have worked out how to start it you can then relax and stop pedalling up the hill – otherwise it would have been very hard work!

I think the Gapyeong Rail Bike was a great option for families to have fun together, and would definitely recommend you include it in your visit to the Gapyeong area. Allow approximately 2 hours for this experience, and ensure you book your timeslot ahead as it can get quickly booked out.

Another nearby option is the Gangchon Rail Bike which offers a similar experience.
